Pearson Meeting

A day in a basement in London yesterday working on some ideas for feeding in to teacher support as we move towards the new KS3 curriculum for Geography (and other subjects)
The day was organised by Pearson, and started off by David Lambert of the GA, who went through some of the challenges, and the way that curriculum making evolved. Whatever form the curriculum takes, it will be teachers that bring it to life in the classroom. There will not be support, or money to pay for extensive teacher training, which is an opportunity for those who are able to get in quick and provide some suggestions for interpreting, constructing and ultimately assessing the curriculum. Schools will still be assessed on the extent to which students are 'making progress' through the new curriculum.

We discussed a range of points through the morning. We were set a challenge that we had to 'solve' in groups and then present them at the end of the day.... Prizes of wine were on offer, which concentrated the mind... delighted to say that I went home with a bottle of red.

It was good to meet Adam Lawson and also meet other SPC colleagues, as well as GA colleagues. Some interesting times ahead... Nice pint of Doom Bar in the Betjeman Arms to round off the day as well.
Plenty more on the new curriculum to come on this blog...
